Limited in terms of development, the Canadian Arctic is littered in abundance as to its natural resources (precious metals, minerals, diamonds, hydrocarbons, etc.).  As example, the relatively new diamond industry (presently sub-Arctic located) in the Northwest Territories has transformed into an annual billion dollar plus industry.  As a result, per capita income for the Northwest Territories is among the highest in the world.

This section surveys key monumental projects intended to provide a socio-economic impact to the vast northern landscape of Canada.

As the adjacent links primarily focus in scope on economic development projects, it’s noteworthy to state that in the fall of 2001, a partnership between the Nunavut Arctic College and the University of Victoria was reached to launch the first-ever Inuit law school – Akitsiraq Law School.  The one-time program was developed to assist in increasing the number of Inuit lawyers in the Arctic – an essential component to the future social and economic environment of this region.
